1301 Olive Street, St. Louis, MO, 63103 / Cake artist: Andy Cross

This cake was located at the St. Louis Public Library’s homebase. The St. Louis Public Library was founded in 1865 as a private/members-only library. Starting with 1,500 books, it has vastly expanded – with more than 4 million items in its possession! They are spread all around the STPL’s 15 branches. Andrew Carnegie made a generous donation in 1901, which helped expand the library system greatly. The current building, built in 1912, was designed by architect Cass Gilbert. Cass Avenue in St. Louis is named after him.

The STPL system is not to be confused with the St. Louis County Library system.
