Jerseyville is the county seat for Jersey County, Illinois. Jersey County was formed in 1839. Its current courthouse was built from 1893-94, being the third courthouse in that county. The building’s limestone exterior, which is decorated on the front face, uses stone quarried from Grafton. It was designed by architect Henry Elliott, who also designed the Greene County, Edgar County and Pike County courthouses in Illinois.
