1401 St. Louis Avenue, St. Louis, MO, 63106 / Cake artist: April Morrison
Here’s a place that transports you back in TIME. Crown Candy Kitchen was established in 1913 by Macedonian immigrants. It is one of the oldest operating soda fountains in the country, and the oldest in the St. Louis area. It is the home of several ice cream dishes, especially their sundaes including their signature one, the Newport. Even though the place is known for its desserts, it is also well-known for their sandwiches. The most notable one is their ‘Heart-Stopping BLT’ (see picture below), which comedian Jimmy Fallon talked about on The Tonight Show. Crown Candy Kitchen is also noted for making their own chocolates and confections, which are made in the back of the kitchen.
