The Heritage House opened in 1968 as a place for retired teachers with affordable housing. The idea was conceived in 1962 by Eric Hohn, Gladys Meyers, Katherine Clarke and Dr. John Whitney, who tirelessly made efforts to make it happen. The building is 19 stories high. A fire occurred in 2012 but it was safely put out. Today, it serves as an independent living complex for seniors who enjoy getting around St. Louis and do activities.
