About 30 miles south of St. Louis lies the historic town of Kimmswick (founded in 1859 by a German immigrant). The Blue Owl Restaurant and Bakery is among one of many shops and eateries you will find along the historic downtown part. The Blue Owl has gotten national attention thanks to exposure on the Food Network and the Travel Channel, as well as various publications like the Oprah and Midwest Living magazines. It is famous for its pastries, cakes, confectionaries, and its ‘levee-high caramel apple pie’. But its not just about the sweets: homemade meals are made here during lunch time. Be sure to come to the Blue Owl before 5pm as it is not open at night, along with most of the shops nearby. It has been owned and operated by Mary Hostetter since 1985.

Where is the cake now?: The cake was repainted in August 2015 to celebrate the Blue Owl’s 30th anniversary. It still sits outside the restaurant. (May 2017)
